I notice that Shi Xu can do recitation quite well. He can recite National pledge , sing the full nursery rhyme , recite stories .For the stories i read to him , he can memorise the sentenses on each page.Sometimes people thought he can read (when he looks at the picture in the story book, he will read the sentence EXACTLY same as that page).In fact he is reciting the sentence by looking at the picture on each page .( he is doing picture reading , not word reading) .By now , he still can't read words by himself .

By notice this , I decide to introduce him 三字经 .He picks up 三字经 quite fast . By now he can recite some of it (video above) .I am thrilled to no end with this .

Welldone, my boy ! Mummy is proud of you .

**Shi Xu @ 34 months old

Shi Xu :"mummy , i tell u a SECRET "
Mummy : "OK "
Shi Xu :(he whispered in my ear) " I put the goldfish in tank ,Clore feed the goldfish , BUT the fish never eat ,MAYBE the fish will die "
** is this a secret ??

Shi Xu : "I am very strong "
Mummy : "Why ? "
Shi XU : "BECAUSE i eat rice ! "

I was eating biscuit on sofa ....
Shi Xu : "Mummy , you can not eat biscuit on sofa ,later sofa dirty ,eat on floor . "
Mummy : "ok ! "
**I feel like i am his little gal .haha ...

It is fun to hear a 2.75 years old todder using conjunction like "maybe " , "because/因为" , "but " ,and "如果 " (I can't remember what he said using 如果 ).
How time flies , my baby has grown up to be a little boy who always talks as an adult !

I have been doing flash card with Shi Xu for months and still keep it as our routine ( at least 2-3 times per week ) .Our flash card routine is not smooth sailing , he attention span is pretty short ,he usually get bored very quickly ,so this does not come easily for me.Often at time ,I have to take times to coax him to sit down and listen to me .

Some weeks back ,his mood crept up .He started to make sentences when i was flashing the set of cards " building and places "

Mummy:office !
(he stopped me proceeding to the next card ,to my surprise ,he wanted to make sentence for each card)
Shi Xu : mummy go to office work work
Mummy: School !
Shi Xu : Shi Xu go to school study
Mummy :Castle !
Shi Xu : Disneyland has castle
Mummy :Airport terminal !
Shi Xu : We go to airport terminal (see) aeroplane
Mummy : Post office !
Shi Xu : Aunty post (he meant aunty go to post office post letter )
Mummy: Playground!
Shi Xu : I want to play see saw (missing the word" at playground" )

The list goes on ...
I was glad that he could enjoy the flash card session with me and able to express what relates to the topic.I truly enjoy this bonding/learning time .It’s such a lovely day.

** Shi Xu @ 32 months old

Sometimes Shi Xu will blurt out some words which not supposed to be spoken out from a 2 years old toddlers .That is funny !

Shi Xu:" Accident! Car car OVERTURN . 死了!"
He knows the consequences of an car accident .
Accident happen->car overturn->passenger die .Whew!

He used his finger to made a shape like flute and told me that "mummy ! You see! INSTRUMENT !" ( he was telling me that he was making a musical instrument)and he held a CD on his hand and pat it and told me that "Tambourine !" (he told me that he was playing tambourine)

I was watching <<学警雄心>>Hong Kong drama and that had one scene the police from Police Academy were marching through the field ,he looked so excited and told us "Marching!"

Shi Xu can differentiate "spill " and "splash " very well . Shame to say that daddy and i fail to do so .when were asked , we would also say "the water(in his bottle) splash out "(sorry for our poor English,hehe..)
However , Shi Xu can differentiate them very well .When Shi Xu enjoys his shower time and has his water play , he will say "splashing" while he splashing the water. however , when he is drinking water and he will remind himself don't "spill" out .

"Accident,overturn , die ,instrument ,marching ,tamborine,spill vs splash "the words that come out of his mouth truly set me in awe .



Shi Xu @ 27 months

Children will use the language they are exposed to and familiar with. If family members,friends and teachers use Singlish, he will likely pick up the rhythm and speech patterns that make up Singlish .

Shi Xu is one of the example . He has learnt to speak singlish . I have no idea he picks up from us or the teachers in school . Anyway I do feel that we should start our children off on the right path and teach them to speak proper English at this young age. We have to be more mindful of language now .

Shi Xu :"Where is my handphone leh ?"
Shi Xu :"be careful ah !"
Shi Xu :" Dont move ah ! "
Shi Xu :"Wait ah ! "

**Shi Xu @ 27 months

Terrible TWO still going on. . When Shi Xu throw his tantrum ,he intends to beat us when we say "NO " to him .I will explain to him the consequences of his actions , sometimes he unwillingly succumb to me .

Shi Xu : "I beat mummy (?)" ( trying to ask"permission " if he can do that )
Shi Xu : "I beat 爸爸 (?)"
Mummy : "Shi Xu can not beat mummy , can not beat 爸爸 ,can not beat people ,we will feel pain if you beat us ,ok ?"
Shi Xu :" I beat zoo animals . "
Mummy : ...........

He has his mind of his own , mummy only mention that can not beat people but not animals.
hmm .. well , i should tell him can not beat ANYONE includes animals . Seem like i should use word wisely from now on .

**Shi Xu @ 26.5 months

Last month we had a historic pledge in singapore 44th birthday . That time Shi Xu still unable to recite the pledge , he was only able to present the posture of pledge when he participated . After 1 month ,he is able to recite the National Pledge !!Last week he recited the pledge in English and followed by manderin , lastly sang his Cherie Heart school song .(Like what he usually does during his school assembly time )

He made my eyes pop and sent me in a state of shock!Daddy even felt shame of himself as he doesn't know National Pledge has Chinese translation !

I was deeply impressed that he can recite the National Pledge at his tender years despite he only recite the first few lines of the pledge .
Shi Xu , mummy and daddy are really proud of you !

**Shi Xu @ 25.75 months

we were learning day of the week ......

Mummy: Monday ! (Hope Shi Xu will read after me )
Shi Xu : Tuesday ! ( wow !amazed that the litte boy know Tuesday is after Monday )
Mummy : Wednesday ! ( thought Shi Xu will give me the answer of "Thursday ")
Shi Xu : Friday !
haha .. so fast he skip to Friday .

Shi Xu : Monday , Tuesday , 爸爸 study .
The little boy still know which day 爸爸 has his master course lesson ..He truly deserves the applause.

when we entered our house in late evening ,it was so dark as i had not turn on the lights yet
Shi Xu :So many 暗暗。 (he means so dark )

Shi Xu likes to play water gun when we bathe him . He put his water gun inside the pail which full of water
Shi Xu : gun swimming .
**fainted , can gun swim ?**

Our stand fan fell down to floor and made a big sound
Shi Xu : fan cry cry ..
**will fan feel pain and cry when fall down ?**

Today , Shi Xu told me
Shi Xu : mummy , 我要一个小朋友 .
what does he means ? does he mean he wants a younger sibling ?

for no reason , Shi Xu find funny to hear me speak cantonese to him , when i speak cantonese to him ,
Shi Xu : (smirk) I dont want !
mummy ignored him and continue the cantonese conversation .
Shi Xu : (smirk again)关掉 mummy .
He was trying to "turn off " mummy . He thought i am radio or TV ? *fainted *

Spending moments with little Shi Xu is like entering into another realm.He never fail to bring on a smile and add sunshine to our everyday .

**Shi Xu @ 25.5 months

Shi Xu pointed at a bird which was flying in the sky
Shi Xu : Bird bird!
Mummy: o Ya , bird bird !
Shi Xu : 还有一个!
He puzzled me , where is the other bird ?i only saw one bird flying in the sky ??!..
Mummy : Where ?
Shi Xu :还有一个! ( pointed at his "bird bird" )
Mummy burst into laugh ..


Mummy was trying to show Shi Xu what is canal when we was passing by a canal at our downstair .
Mummy : This is canal .
Shi Xu :(wave his little hands ) can not !
I was wondering why can not ?
Mummy : canal !
Shi Xu : can not ! ( wave his hands again )
Pause for few sec , i just realized that he misheard "canal " as "can not " haha ..


I tried to tie my hair up due to the recent hot weather
Shi Xu :姐姐！
muahaha .... do i look young when i tie my hair up ?
Mummy : 姐姐 ??
Shi Xu :姐姐 mummy！
He gives me a few minutes of excitement. It’s such a lovely day .^ ^


**Shi Xu @ 25 months

Shi Xu never fails to amuse us with his funny tricks and actions ,he call

Shi Xu show very little interest in Math .Everytime when i flash math dot card to him , he will tend to turn away and do something else .He just refuses to look at the dot cards.Sometimes i really feel like i am flashing to the air like a mad lady .I hardly put him to sit still and look at the dot cards .He really demoralized me and I have stopped flashing for few months .Recently i restarted the program again ,he still show little interest .

Last week , to my much surprise . he took out some cards and flashed them to me !

Shi Xu : 31,32,34,39,33 ...!

He kept flashing and spoke out the numbers ,although he did not flash the correct card ,he could name out the numbers (which > 10) that set me in awe and this was out of my expectation as he did not look at the card everytime i flashed to him ! (well, perhap he was listening )

I am wondering who is teacher and who is student now ?Shi Xu, are we at wrong position ? haha ..


**Shi Xu @ 25 months

Shi Xu has a mind of his own .His sense of himself as a distinct person grows, he'll talk about himself -- what he's doing in school, what he likes, and what he doesn't like.

Recently he told us , "I like Isabel " , "I like Sarah" (his female school peers ) .We just teased that he already has 2 girl friends in school . But I know he just simply feel more comfortable in playing with particular peers .Just like adult ,we are more closer with particular friends .

last week ...
Daddy: "Do you want to kiss Isabel ?"
Shi Xu:" I want to kiss mummy !"

That is nothing beat his say he want to kiss mummy ,it makes my days .

Moment with Shi Xu always bring a glow in me .

**Shi Xu @ 24.5 month

in the car , when we were on our way home ... 

mummy : what is your name ?
Shi Xu : my name Shi xu ( "is" omitted ) 

mummy : How old are you ?
Shi Xu : i am 2 years old 
( try to do a victory posture which means 2 , but still unable to do that posture ,end up come out with 4 or 5 fingers , he still unable to bend down the other 3 fingers haha .. ) 

mummy :Where do you stay ? 
Shi Xu :I stay Semba-wang! ( "at" omitted ) 

爸爸说这通常都是警察会问的问题，所以现在不用担心时旭会失踪了。如果失踪，去 sembawang警察局就好啦！哈哈。。 
但我认为这还不够呢，因为还没告诉警察住哪个block,哪一楼和哪个unit 啊！ 如果这也会的话，警察叔叔就可把时旭送到门口了哈哈。。。

我会不会要求太多呢哈哈。。。

时旭 on 22.75 month

今天时旭嚷着要去shopping , 他一直对保姆说“bob ping ,bob ping" (shopping ) .保姆拿他没办法，就带他到Hougang Mall shopping。谁知经过 ATM Machine时，时旭对保姆说“dee dee "他在叫保姆去提钱哈哈。。。嗯。。也许时旭待会儿要玩toy car riding 吧， 所以他叫保姆先准备好钱， 哈哈。。



**时旭 on 17th month

今天时旭又跟着mummy的话尾说话。他在玩mummy的credit cards .Mummy 说“不要玩mummy的cards!" ，他就跟着说“cards " .一张一张credit cards 从mummy 的钱包抽出来， 一边说“cards!cards!".其实mummy 也不懂该教他说"card " or "cardS " 。但也太迟了，even mummy 在教"card" 时， 他还是说“cardS”了。人家说“一岁定八十“，他确是“一次成定局“ 。时旭又 pass cards to mummy and 对 mummy说“谢谢!谢谢!",mummy 教他说“thank you! " ，他竟说成 "di q "


**时旭 on 17th months

Today 时旭 learnt one more new word . he suddently said " Airplane! " when he was watching "Best ABC "VCD and was showing the airplane .

有趣的时旭把交通工具都加了一个"car"字,除了bus之外. 他叫bycicle as "by car car " , motocycle as "moto car " haha ...

"ah go go!"时旭 said when he watched the TV advertised "穿越阿哥哥"(穿越 ah go go ).Recently he always follow TV advertisement to speak . haha ....now "ah go go " has become his pet phrase .

We had our dinner near Chong Pang and beside Mac Donald .Mummy taught 时旭 to pronounce M in front of Mac Donald . when we went out from restaurant , 时旭 pointed right in his ahead and said "M" ,mummy told him M is at next door , not in front of the restaurant . Who know after that mummy saw it really has a Mac Donald sign board ahead which written M ! haha ... 时旭 was pointing to that M actually . But when we on the way back , 时旭 keep saying "M" ,"M" ,"M" ,he was practising the word .haha ... well , mummy dont know little 时旭 really can recognise the word as "M" or just anyhow say only.
